History
Founded by students at the University of Texas at Austin dedicated to exploring some of the world’s most divisive issues, the International Affairs Society has become an integral part of the UT student organization environment and a place of learning outside of the traditional classroom setting. For years, our organization has presented students the welcoming, open-minded atmosphere needed for fostering a passion for learning about, debating over, and discussing current events that impact not only the world directly around them, but the lives of millions of people globally as well.
Mission
Our mission is simple. The International Affairs Society is an organizations that aims to facilitate the professional development, academic excellence, and graduation of all its members, in addition to being dedicated to exploring current international affairs.
About IAS
The International Affairs Society (IAS) is a professional and social organization at the University of Texas at Austin whose mission is to cater to students interested in international relations, global affairs, cultural interaction, and travel. We foster both professional and social relationships between students, academic faculty, and professionals from various fields. Whatever each member’s unique reason is for joining the organization, the International Affairs Society provides opportunities to fit each member's interest. Whether it be through a current events discussions, career development workshops, diplomatic etiquette lessons, distinguished speakers, or community service, IAS creates an environment in which students can thrive and become global citizens. Many meetings include a guest speaker with a different internationally themed topic, ranging from international study programs and internships abroad, to presentations by global non-governmental organizations. IAS also hosts a number of signature events throughout the year, including the International Affairs Roundtable and the Global Net.
